Abstract

1307413 Knitting machines K TANNERT 2 June 1970 [2 June 1969 19 Aug 1969] 26469/70 Heading D1C In a thread feeder for a knitting machine, a thread store comprising at least one complete convolution is progressively formed on a stationary storage body 2 by means of a revolving guide and progressively shifted along, the thread passing through the body longitudinally in the opposite direction from the feed of the thread store on the body. Within storage body 2 is a hollow shaft 3 connected at one end to drive pulley 4. Thread 101 from supply 100 passes through shaft 3 to eye 52 which winds it on to the edge 21 of body 2 from which it slides down to form the store which moves axially in direction W. When the store reaches position 102a a sensor 71 within body 2 switches off a magnetic switch 6 which is not switched on again until the store has diminished to position 102e. Switch 6 may start and stop or speed up and slow down a drive or may actuate a clutch. The thread is pulled off the store and used in the knitting machine. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the thread is wound on to a stationary housing by a pair of rotary eyes and is pulled off through the centre of the storage body. In another arrangement, Fig. 4, a cylindrical body 13 is rotated within the stationery body 2 causing the thread store 102 to move. Body 2 may, Figs. 6 and 7, consist of a series of rods 24 each with an end slope 210 within which feed body 13 with ribs 130 rotates about an eccentric axis. A series of feeds at different working stations may have a common drive even if the requirements for thread at different stations are different. As shown, Fig. 9, longitudinally oscillated members connected to discs 131, 132 within a deformable non-rotatable feed body 13 are mounted within rods 24 forming the fixed store. Discs 131, 132 are eccentric and thus body 13 moves radially during rotation of shaft 3. The thread runs in through shaft 3 and is wound on by eye 52. Figures 12 and 13 (not shown) show an arrangement similar to that of Fig. 2 but with positive axial feed for the store. Figure 14 (not shown) shows a tapered storage body in an arrangement similar to Figure 9. Figure 15 (not shown) shows another arrangement similar to Fig. 9 in which the eye 52 is enclosed so as to be suitable for fine threads.
