Abstract
1307202 1 - Haloalkyl - 4 - phenyl - 2(1 H)- quinazolinones SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 15 June 1971 28026/71 Heading C2C Novel 1 - haloalkyl - 4 - phenyl - 2(1H)- quinazolinones of the general formula wherein R is an alkyl group substituted by at least two halogen atoms and R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are each a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, nitro, trifluoromethyl, C 1-4 alkylthio or C 1-4 alkylsulphonyl group, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by treating a trihaloacetamidobenzophenone of the general formula wherein X is a halogen atom, with ammonia, followed optionally by salification of the product. Trihaloacetamidobenzophenones of the second general formula above are prepared by reacting an o-aminobenzophenone of the general formula with a trihaloacetic acid or a reactive derivative thereof. Pharmaceutical compositions having analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity comprise, as active ingredient, at least one 1-haloalkyl-4- phenyl-2(1H)-quinazolinone of the first general formula above or acid addition salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier, and may be administered orally or parenterally.
