Abstract
1307102 Electroplating of bulk metal objects M & T CHEMICALS Inc 19 May 1970 [20 May 1969] 24166/70 Heading C7B In a method of bulk electroplating of metal objects in which intermittent movement of the objects is effected to change their position with respect to each other, the plating current is reduced or switched off prior to the period of movement, and re-established at plating level thereafter. A plating barrel may be used in which the intermittent movement of the objects is effected by rotation or rotary reciprication, e. g. together with vibration of the barrel. The apparatus used may comprise a plating barrel of square crosssection as described in Specification 1307103. The basket may be provided with an insoluble anode, or with soluble anode of metallic chips or slugs in a foraminous titanium basket. The method may be used for deposition of chromuim from a chromic acid bath containing a high ratio of CrO 3 to catalyst. As catalyst fluosilicate (e. g. potassuim fluosilicate), fluoborate, fluoaluminate, fluozirconate, fluotitanate, sulphate (e.g. strontium sulphate) or fluoride (e.g. rare earth fluoride) may be used.
