Abstract
130,612. Jacobs, J. June 22, 1914, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Sunken objects, indicating position of; life-saving chambers.-Relates to an attachment to enable the crew of a sunken submarine to be rescued. A slightly tapering chamber 1 with water-tight doors 17 is provided for the crew, and at the top of this chamber is a receptacle for a buoy 8 attached by a cable 10 to a pipe 14 terminating within the chamber 1 and provided with a cock 15. The buoy is forced off its seat by a screw 11 with a handwheel 12, water being run in beneath the buoy, if necessary, through a pipe 16 with a cock as shown. After communication has been established with the crew by means of the pipe, the chamber 1 is forced up from the submarine by turning the hand-wheel 4 on the screw 3, and the chamber is lifted by cables attached to the rings 6. Slides 9, 5 prevent the buoy and chamber from turning as the screws are rotated.
