Abstract

1306006 Cutting apparatus HARRISINTERTYPE CORP 18 May 1971 [28 Sept 1970] 15548/71 Heading B4B [Also in Division B6] Blanks 32, Fig. 1 and 4, after being printed on are provided with score lines 56 and slots 58, 62 by passing between two sets of rotatable members 38, 42 and 66, 76. Each set comprises a plurality of upper members 38 or 66 co-operating with a plurality of lower members 42 or 76. Each upper member as 38, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, is provided with a peripheral scoring recess 46 and an annular T-section groove in an end face 53, in which can be removably inserted and angularly adjustable two slotting knives 50, 52. Each lower member, as 42, is provided with a scoring ring having a bead 48, and a ring 54 having a slotting recess 55. Each pair (e.g. 38, 42) of members is adjustable axially on its shaft 40 so that either the bead 48 co-operates with the recess 46 to form score lines, or the knives 50, 52 co-operate with the recess 55 to form slots. The diameter of the members 38 on the shaft 40 is about one and a half times that of the members 66 on the shaft 68. In operation, a blank is fed in succession between printing and impression cylinders 16, 24 and 20, 28, feed rollers 36, and the space between members 38, 42 and 66, 76 and according to the length of the blank, the apparatus is set either for normal operation with the scoring done by the members 38, 48 and the slotting by the members 66, 76, or for "extended slotting" operation with slotting by the members 38, 48 and scoring by the members 66, 76.
