Abstract
1305823 Curing epoxy resins UNION CARBIDE CORP 6 May 1970 [6 May 1969] 21897/70 Heading C3B A composition comprises at least one curable polyepoxide (I) or at least one amino compound (II) capable of curing I. II is free from epoxy compounds, has at least 2 active hydrogen atoms, a M.W. 45-10,000 and is an aliphatic, aromatic, aralkyl cycloaliphatic or alkaryl amine, an aliphatic polyamine or an amino-substituted alcohol or phenol. In addition to I or II the composition contains <0À1% by wt. (of I or II) of an ammonium compound which is either a cationic compound [NR 4 ]<SP>+</SP>Anion- (III) in which each R is individually H or a monovalent C 1-24 organic radical and the anion is halogen, carboxylic acid, nitrate, sulphate, sulphonate or hydroxy, or a cationic polysiloxane ammonium compound (IV). IV comprises at least one siloxy unit and at least one siloxy unit R and the anion are defined above, R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-20 monovalent hydrocarbon radical, b = 1-3, c= 0-2 and X is a divalent C 1-12 bridging group which is alkylene optionally substituted by OH and/or oarbonoxy radicals. I may be a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or a cycloaliphatic polyepoxide which may contain monoepoxy reactive diluents. II may be NH 2 (CH 2 NH) n NH 2 (n = 1-3) or N-hydroxyethyldiethylene triamine. Examples of III are dilauryldimethylammonium chloride or # - hydroxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride. IV may have the formula in which x= 1-50, y = 0-250 and the ratio of y to x is # 20 : 1. The composition may also comprise solvents, fillers and conventional adjuvants. Uses.-In filled compositions which are resistant to filler settle.
