Abstract

1305639 Ignition systems AUTOELEKTRONIK AG 9 June 1970 [20 Nov 1969] 27959/70 Heading F1B A capacitor ignition arrangement for internal combustion engines has a storage capacitor C 3 which is charged via a charging rectifier D 5 and the secondary winding 1b of a charging transformer 1 whose primary winding 1a is connected to a DC, source Bt, and is discharged via the primary winding 7a of an ignition coil 7 and an electronic switching element 6 the operation of the switching element being controlled by the contacts 3a, 3b of a contact breaker which is driven in synchronism with the engine shaft. The primary winding 1a of the charging transformer the switching path of a controllable electronic switch T and a first winding 2a of a pulse transformer 2 are series connected and a second winding 2b of the pulse transformer is connected to a control path of the electronic switch. A flow current is produced through the series arrangement upon the occurrence of a control pulse induced in the second winding of the pulse transformer upon opening of the contact breaker contacts, the switching path being fully controlled by means of a control pulse of increasing magnitude produced in the second winding of the pulse transformer by the flow of current through the first winding of the pulse transformer and being blocked by a further electronic switching element 4 when the current flowing through the series arrangement has attained a predetermined value, the pulse transformer having an iron core which is saturated by a current amplitude less than the predetermined value. A thermistor 8 is associated with the switching element 4, which element as described is a thyristor.
