Abstract

1305039 Surgical supports PHILIPS ELECTRONIC AND ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 Feb 1970 [24 Feb 1969] 8295/70 Headings A4H, A4J [Also in Divisions A5, H5] A device for positioning a patient, e. g. for X-ray therapy, comprises a carriage 5 moveable in a horizontal plane and having a vertical column 4 secured thereto, and a patient's support 1 attached to a cantilever 2 that is connected to the column 4 so as to be rotatable about an axis A-A' parallel to the plane of movement of the carriage 5, there being provided an arrangement, e.g. a slide 6, for moving the cantilever 2 perpendicular to axis A-A' to adjust the distance between the patient's support 1 and this axis. As shown, the patient's support may be a chair the back of which is adjustable between a horizontal position and one inclined at 100 degrees thereto and which may also have an adjustable head-support. The chair 1 is fastened to the horizontal end 2a of cantilever 2, and may also be mounted for rotation about an axis B-B' perpendicular to A-A', and the other, vertical end 2b of the cantilever is mounted on rotary shaft 3. The patient may be fixed to the chair 1 by self-locking (airplane) belts. The various movements are performed by a motor and are self-arresting. The device may be used in combination with the X-ray tube disclosed in French Specification 1419001.
