Abstract

1288085 X-ray apparatus PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Oct 1969 [19 Oct 1968] 51112/69 Heading H5R In X-ray apparatus permitting radiography in two orthogonal directions, and particularly suitable for the examination of the human spine, a first X-ray source 15 is supported from a carriage 14 of a sighting apparatus 11 on which an image intensifier 10 is arranged, the carriage being connected with a turret 13 of the sighting apparatus, and a second X-ray source and an image intensifier 17, for lateral examination are displaceable with the sighting apparatus along the length of an examination table, the lateral image intensifier being detachably fastenable to a vertically displaceable frame 21 coupled with the carriage 14, and the lateral X-ray source being detachably fixed at will with respect to either the turret 13 or the sighting apparatus 11 itself. As shown, the sighting apparatus 11 is connected to the turret 13 by angle members 12, which are vertically adjustable on the rails 31 and the turret is movable along the examination table (not shown) with the carriage 14, and transversely with respect to the carriage 14, and hence the table top, on a transversely movable carriage not shown in the drawing. The lateral image intensifier 17 is mounted in a rotary crown 19 held by, and displaceable along, guide rods 20, which are in turn mounted on, and are vertically displaceable along, a frame 18 which is detachably fixed to the carriage 14. The lateral X-ray source 27, Fig. 3, is vertically adjustable on rails 24, 25 of the turret 13 to a position fixed with respect to either the sighting apparatus 11 or to the turret, by the engagement of a snap stop lever 30 either with notched frame 29 or 28, respectively. Both the vertical and the lateral image intensifier is readily detachable from the apparatus, and only one need be employed if sequential examination in the two directions is adequate.
