Gear-wheels, grind ing a n d truein teeth of. - A grind ing - machine to dressing the teeth of cast-steel and othe bevel-wheels com prises a grinding-disk 1 having a contour to suit the average con tour of the side of : tooth, and a mandre 5, 5a adjustably mounted on a pivot pin 6 carried by a slide 9 slidable in a slide-bed 10; the axi of the pin is in the vertical medial plane of the grinding-disk The part 5a of the mandrel is inclined to the shank 5 at ar angle b approximate ly equal to the com plement of the base angle of the pitcl cone c of the bevel wheel, and carries ar adjustable collar 14 The bevel-wheel 4 is mounted on the mandrel and has secured to it a dividing-plate 15 with slots 15a in its periphery adapted to be brought successively into alinement with a slot 14<a> in the collar 14, and held by a stud and nut. In operation, the bevel-wheet is adjusted to bring the apex of its pitch-cone into the axis of the pin 6, and the mandrel and slide 9 are moved to and fro by a handle 5<b>, the mandrel as a whole being angled about the pin to keep the side of the tooth in contact with the grinding-disk; the amount of angling is determined by the contact of a pin 5<c> on the shank with templets 17, both sides of the teeth thus being dressed. The slide-bed 10 may be adjusted for height and for inclination by means of bolts 13 screwing into a plate 11 secured to the pedestal of the machine.
