1304508 Seats &c SOC ANON BE LGE D'EXPLOITATION DE LA NAVIGATION AERIENNE 25 May 1971 [25 May 1970] 17035/71 Heading A4M A seat or bed comprises one or more cushions 2 supported by and within a rigid frame 1, the or each cushion 2 comprising a block of resilient open-pore foam material 4 within a flexible, airtight cover 3, means 5 being provided for selectively connecting the interior of the or each cushion 2 either to a source of suction 6 or to atmosphere to adjust the amount of air within the cushion. The means 5 comprises a housing 9 with a cylindrical chamber 11 housing a piston 14 which is manually displaceable to any one of three positions in which it either closes off a tube 10 communicating with the cushion interior, puts the tube 1 in communication with the suction source 6 through a passage 13 and the hollow interior of the frame 2, or vents the tube 10 through a hole 12 to atmosphere. A handle 15 is biased, by means 17, to a position in which it moves the piston 14 to a position in which it closes the tube 10. An L-shaped pipe secured to the frame 1 may replace the latter as the suction pipe. A permeable lower layer 21 of reticulated foam material may be included within the cover 3 to spread the suction evenly over the bottom of the block 4. Edge padding may be provided on the frame 1.
