Abstract

1304350 Load responsive braking systems; valves GIRLING Ltd 8 April 1970 [17 April 1969] 19619/69 Headings F2F and F2V A valve for controlling the pressure of brake fluid at the brakes of a vehicle, having a selflevelling suspension system, in response to loading of the vehicle comprises a valve body 1 having a fluid inlet 2 for connection to a master cylinder, an outlet 3 for connection to the wheel brake cylinders, pistons 7, 42 loaded by springs 21, 26 and an inlet 49 for connection to the fluid circuit of the self-levelling system, the piston 7 being operable below a preset pressure in the vehicle braking circuit to connect inlet 2 and outlet 3 and operable at the preset pressure to move against the bias of the springs to prevent communication so that braking pressure is reduced, the variation of pressure on the piston 42 altering the preset value. A sleeve 6 has a radial part whose radially inner end forms a sealing surface for a ball 9 biased against it by a spring clip 10, movement of piston 7 causing a collar 27 to move the ball. In a modification, Fig. 2, a piston 60 corresponds to piston 42 and a lever 50 transmits the force of spring 21 to piston 7, the unit having thus a lesser overall height than that of Fig. 1.
