Abstract

1303684 Blasting M KOENIG and D N RASCHEEFF 10 July 1970 [11 July 1969] 33679/70 Heading E1F To facilitate loading gel explosive 2 into a borehole 3, the explosive in a liquid form is poured into a pipe 1 and is allowed to gel therein, the gel explosive-containing pipe is then introduced into the borehole until it contacts the end of the borehole and compressed air is entered into the outer end of the pipe to cause the gel explosive to be forced out of the pipe to completely fill the borehole and the pipe to be pushed out of the borehole as it is filled with explosive. Each pipe may be connected to a compressed air source 4 by a valve 4, hose 6, nozzle 7, flexible sleeve 8 and quick release couplings 9, may be formed from elastic and, preferably, plastics material, may have a piston 11 slidable therein, and may be provided within its end insertable into the borehole with abutment means, e.g. radially extending pins 12, for retaining the piston in the pipe. At a face gel explosive-containing pipes I and emptied pipes 101 are appropriately stored in a two compartment box 17 hinged to a vertically adjustable platform 14 mounted on a wheeled truck 16 and slidably supported at its opposite end on another wheeled truck 20 for to and fro movement towards the truck 16.
