Abstract

1301920 Level crossing control system GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 4 Dec 1970 [4 Dec 1969] 57754/70 Heading B7N In a level crossing control system an A.C. signal transmitter 20 is coupled to the track adjacent the crossing with a receiver 21 ressponsive to the rate of change of amplitude of the signal and the signal amplitude is arranged to vary as a quasi-logarithmic function of the distance of a vehicle axle 11 from the crossing so that the receiver produces a crossing signal at a fixed time before vehicle arrival by supplying an output when the rate of change of the signal amplitude is above a set value. The quasi-logarithmic relationship between the signal amplitude E and the distance S is obtained by arranging the track impedance Za, the input and output impedances Zin, Zs of the receiver and transmitter respectively and the frequency of the A.C. signal such that over the range of distances required the product of S and dE/dS is approximately constant. Slope detector 31 produces a signal when the slope exceeds a set value and operates the warning 51 via output generator 41.
