1301788 Non-woven fabric CHAVANOZ SA 19 April 1971 [19 March 1970] 24419/71 Heading D1R A non-woven fabric is made by simultaneously winding weft yarns 31-33 from packages 146, 148, 166 around a pair of spaced yarn supports 40 to form a sheet of weft yarns, at least one of the yarn packages being carried by a support 142 or 144 which is biased against rotation, and combining one or more sheets of warp yarns 90, 92 with the weft sheet to form the fabric. Three tubular yarn-guide arms 19, 20, 21 are secured to a hollow shaft 22 rotatably driven through a chain 29 from a motor 24. Each support 40 is helically threaded and removably secured to a stub shaft 46 journalled in a cross-bar 48 and rotatably driven from the shaft 22 through a sprocket wheel 54. Locating stops 56 positioned beneath each support 40 prevent rotation of the supports about the axis of shaft 22. The weft sheet as it reaches the ends of the supports 40 passes through nip rolls 84, 86, to combine with the warp sheets 90, 92 and is secured thereto by passing through an adhesive bath 100 and over drying rolls 104, 105. A creel rotor 17 comprising tubes 118, 120, 122, 124 is journalled in bearings 112, 114 to rotate with the shaft 22. Stub shafts 128, 130, 132, secured to the creel rotor are mounted in bearings 134, 136, 138, 140 attached to the package supports 142, 144 which are biased against roation by counterweights 156 and each comprise a shield 150 housing yarn packages 146, 148 connected top to tail and hinged to the shield. A further yarn package 166 is hinged to a support member 170 outside the creel rotor. In operation, weft yarns from the packages 146 and 166 are led through respective creel tubes, the shaft 22 and yarn guide arms 19-21 to be wound around the supports 40. Instead of the counterweights 156, rotation of the supports 142 and 144 may be prevented by magnets.
