Abstract

1301620 Driving simulator NAKAMURA SEISAKUJO KK 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970 18 July 1970 1 Oct 1970] 24774/71 Heading A6M A driving simulator, wherein the image of a road and the images of motor vehicles running on said road can be formed on a screen, comprises at least one rotatable disc, at least one rotatable ring mounted co-axially therewith so as to define an annular space which appears on the screen as a road, at least one motor vehicle model carried by said disc and/or said ring so as to be disposed in the annular space and a light source for projecting the image of said model on the screen. In the embodiment shown there is a first rotatable disc 16 carrying a model 14 a second disc 17 carrying inner background scenery, a first rotatable ring 15 carrying another model 14 and a second rotatable ring 13 carrying outer background scenery. A light source 19 projects images of the models 14 and also of a model 11 for forming the front portion of the motor vehicle simulately driven on to the screen 12. The light source and model 11 are pivotal about a common point (Fig. 11, not shown) under the control of steering wheel 2 so as to give the effect of the simulately driven vehicle moving across the road and the relative speeds of the discs 16, 17 and rings 13, 15 is controlled by control means 8 operated by accelerator 5 so as to give the effects of passing scenery and the passing of other vehicles on the road. The ring carrying the outer background scenery can be oscillated up and down to give the effect of banking. The disc and ring carrying the model vehicles 14 are driven by a motor (27) (Fig. 9, not shown) through gearing including differential means so that they can be rotated in reverse direction to simulate overtaking and the disc and ring carrying scenery are driven through suitable gearing by motor 10. In an alternative embodiment separate motors are used with direct friction drive means. A coin operated switch is incorporated for indicating operation of the simulator. The models 14 are preferably three dimensional and made from transparent or semitransparent sheet synthetic resin and arranged so that light is only transmitted once through the model. Alternatively a picture of a motor vehicle may be used.
