Abstract
1301614 Toy track systems MATTEL INC 19 April 1971 [22 Jan 1971] 9949/71 Heading A6S A track system for a toy vehicle comprises; at least one track section 10 including a support portion 16 with a running surface 18 for a vehicle, oppositely disposed guide flanges 38, 40 extending along the length of the track section, and depending flanges which define a receptacle for receiving a track section connector 12 for joining two abutting track sections; and a track section connector including projecting flanges for engaging the depending flanges of said track section, and two oppositely disposed alignment flanges 64, 66 for aligning said guide flanges of said track section. The embodiment described is particularly envisaged for use with toy cars that include an electric motor and a battery, the running surface being at least twice as wide as the width of a car and provided with narrow ridges 24 for generally maintaining the cars parallel to the guide flanges 38, 40. The connector has three sets of projecting flanges 52, 54; 56, 58; and 60, 62 which cooperate with corresponding pairs of depending flanges on the track section. The central pair of projecting flanges have extensions 130, 132 and are provided with small protuberances such as at 114, 116 which provide a tight friction-fit between the track section and the connector. To ensure that the connector is received equally by the two abutting track sections abutment surfaces 101, (103) (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) are provided on the projecting flanges 56, 58. The track section 10 and connector 12 are preferably formed as an extrusion and one piece moulding respectively of plastics material.
