Abstract

1301496 Two-stage fluid pumps; radial piston pumps; rotary positive-displacement pumps APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc 2 Oct 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 46990/70 Headings F1A and F1F A two-stage fluid pump comprises a Gerotor pump 4 and a radial piston pump 5 driven by a common shaft 2, the two pumps being able to operate together to discharge fluid to a common outlet or the radial piston pump 5 operating alone but fed by the Gerotor pump 4. The Gerotor pump 4 has two discharge passages, one leading to an outlet 24 and the other leading via a passage 23 and annular passage 25, to passages 26, 28 in each of three pump bodies B of the piston pump 4 and thence to the respective piston chamber 30. The shaft 2 has an eccentric portion 33 on which is mounted a needle race 34 having a flat 40. One of the pistons 31 engages the flat so that the race 40 is held in the same orientation relative to the apparatus as the eccentric 33 rotates. The pistons 31 are thus reciprocated by such rotation. The piston pump 5 discharges fluid to an outlet 11. When both pumps operate together fluid flows from the two outlets 11, 24 to a common passage 10. The Gerotor pump outlet discharge can be dumped by a valve 8, so that the piston pump operates alone, being fed through passages 23, 25, 26, 28 by the Gerotor pump.
