Abstract

1301452 Preparation of methoxynaphthylpropionic acid SYNTEX CORP 20 Jan 1970 [30 Sept 1969] 31642/72 Divided out of 1300591 Heading C2C 2 - (6 - Methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) propionic acid is prepared by heating a compound I in which R 1 , R 2 and R 4 are H, alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl and R 3 is as R 1 or is hydrocarbon acyl at 200-400‹C. and optionally resolving a fl-mixture thus formed. t - Butyl 2 - (6 - methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) propionate is prepared by reacting 2-(6-methoxy-2- naphthyl) acetic acid with t-butanol to give t-butyl 2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) acetate, followed by methylation. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising 2-(6- methoxy-2-naphthyl)-propionic acid, when prepared as above, together with an excipient, are used in treating inflammation, pain and pyrexia.
