Abstract
1301180 Sample injector for high pressure liquid chromatographs VARIAN ASSOCIATES 17 Aug 1970 [18 Aug 1969] 39536/70 Heading B1X In order to inject a sample by hypodermic syringe into liquid chromatography column 2, e.g. of ion exchange resin, which is designed to operate at 1,000-20,000 psig, knob 33 is unscrewed sufficiently to allow plate 19 to be rotated about pivot 21 to the position shown in Fig. 4, thereby allowing the syringe needle to be inserted through aperture 35 with access to column 2 so as to deliver the sample. The needle is then withdrawn, plate 19 rotated to the position shown in Fig. 3 and knob 33 screwed down to apply sealing pressure between plate 19 and resilient cylindrical seal 24. Solvent, e.g. water, chloroform or ammonium formate, is then passed to column 2 under the desired pressure through conduit 17.
