Abstract

1301014 Earphones AKG AKUSTISCHE U KINO-GERATE GmbH 13 Feb 1970 [17 Feb 1969 12 Jan 1970] 6951/70 Heading H4J The diaphragm of an earphone has a resonance frequency at the lower end of the audio frequency range and is mounted so that in use a space exists between the diaphragm and the users ear and is freely vented to the atmosphere in at least one mode of operation. The figure shows one earphone of a headset. The earphone has a peripheral wall 21 carrying a soft bead 22 filled with liquid or foam material. The wall surrounds an ear of a user forming a chamber between the ear and the diaphragm. The wall has apertures 23 which may be opened and closed by rotation of a similarly apertured adjustment ring 24 to vary contact with the surrounding environment. The transducer is of the moving coil type and the rear of the metal, paper or plastics diaphragm 3 communicates via holes 17 and a duct 15 with the interior of the earphone housing 18 which is vented to the outside air via apertures 18. A pad of foam material 6 may be provided for changing purposes and is separated from the diaphragm by a mesh 10. The case 18 may also contain damping material.
