Abstract

1300950 Gas turbine plant; gas air steam turbine plant ROLLS ROYCE Ltd 13 Nov 1970 [15 Nov 1969] 56019/69 Headings F1G and F1Q A power plant comprises a compressor, a heater and a turbine connected to drive the compressor, there being a first annular manifold coaxial with and disposed between the compressor and the turbine and a second annular manifold coaxial with and disposed within the first annular manifold. The outlet of the compressor is connected to the inlet of the heater by way of one of the annular manifolds and the outlet of the heater is connected to the inlet of the turbine by way of the other annular manifold. The plant shown comprises a first compressor and turbine assembly 10, 50 and a second compressor and turbine assembly 12, 52, the outlets of the compressors 10, 12 being connected to the inlet 28 of a fluidized bed combustion chamber 34 and the outlet 40 of the combustion chamber being connected to the outlet 40 of the combustion chamber being connected to the inlets of the two turbines 50, 52, the outlets of the two turbines being connected to a separate power turbine 60 which drives an electric generator 62. A coil 64 is disposed within the fluidized bed 36 of the combustion chamber, a secondary fluid such as water being heated in the coil, the steam produced passing to a steam turbine 70 which drives an electric generator 72. The steam discharging from the turbine 70 passes to a condenser 66 the feed water passing back to the coil 64 through pump 68. Air from the compressors 10, 12 passes to annular manifolds 18, 20 disposed coaxially of the compressor and turbine assemblies 10, 50 and 12, 52 respectively, the air discharging from the manifolds through outlets 24, 26 and passing to the combustion chamber 34. Combustion gases from the chamber 34 pass through inlets 42, 44 into annular manifolds 46, 48 disposed within the air manifolds 18, 20 respectively, the combustion gases then passing to the turbines 50, 52. The air manifolds are connected together by a short duct 22.
