Abstract

1300766 Electric motors L'ECLAIRAGE DES VEHICULES SUR RAIL 4 May 1970 [9 May 1969] 21425/70 Heading H2A An electric motor comprising a stator carrying a field winding 14, Fig. 3, or 38, Fig. 5, and stator coils 37 which are energized from a D.C. source through an inverter 32 controlled in dependence on rotor position, includes a closed electric circuit surrounding a stator coil to reduce the inductance of the coil. The inverter includes thyristors 35 and the closed electric circuit, which facilitates commutation of the thyristors, may comprise a short circuit ring 21, e.g. of copper, wound round a salient stator pole 12. The stator coils are mounted in slots 18 in the pole face. Alternatively, the ends of the field winding may be connected together through a diode 22, Fig. 4 (not shown), so that the winding serves as the closed electric circuit. The motor disclosed includes an optical rotor position sensor and the inverter is preceded by a voltage reducing electronic chopper 30, a choke 31 and booster diode 34.
