1437683 Induction motors INSTITUTUL DE CERCETARESIPROIECTARE PENTRU INDUSTRIA ELECTROTEHNICA 11 Jan 1974 01431/74 Heading H2A An induction motor having a core 1 with three limbs terminating in salient poles 2, 3, 4 has a first winding 5 connected to a single phase A.C. supply 8, and a second winding 6 connected in series to a capacitor 9 to form a closed circuit. A similar motor (Fig. 2, not shown) has a second winding (6) and series capacitor (9) connected to tapping points across a supplyconnected first winding (5). In each ease the voltage across the second winding is less than that across the first winding and the currents in the windings are mutually out of phase, the de-phasing causing a rotating field to exist in the air gap between the core 1 and a cage rotor 7. The illustrated magnetic bridges between the poles may optionally be broken to leave the poles separated.
