Abstract

1300665 Vehicle safety belts SAAB-SCANIA AB 28 April 1970 20334/70 Heading A3V [Also in Divisions B3 B7 and F2] An impact-energy-absorbing device (see also Division F2) consists of a pair of telescoping tubes having sets of balls 13 located between them, the cross-section of the tubes where they engage the balls being as shown in Fig. 2. The indentations in the inner tube are axial grooves and those in the outer tube are part-spherical recesses. Both tubes, but principally the inner one, are elastically deformed in a radial direction when the tubes are subjected to an axial force. Such an energy absorbing device may be combined with a vehicle seat belt.
