Abstract

1300388 Polyester resin castings BECK KOLLER & CO (ENGLAND) Ltd 11 March 1970 [11 March 1969] 12627/69 Headings C3C and C3P Cast objects are made from a polyester resin in which a compound which acts as a blowing agent under the conditions employed in the casting process and which is capable of producing small, conchoidal, internal fractures in the resin after casting, is incorporated in the resin before casting and cross-linking. The polyester resin may be an unsaturated polyester resin derived from the reaction product of an α,#-unsaturated dibasic acid with a dihydric alcohol blended with a vinyl monomer, e.g. styrene. The blowing agent may be α.α<SP>1</SP>-azodiisobutyronitrile, dinitrosopentamethylenetetramine or paratoluenesulphonylhydrazide. The polyester may be derived from maleic and phthalic anhydrides and propylene glycol and may contain an inhibitor, e.g. hydroquinone or para-tert-butyl catechol, and may be compounded before casting with cobalt naphthenate and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide.
