Abstract
1299905 Electro-photography MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 23 April 1970 [23 April 1969(2) 12 June 1969(3)] 19574/70 Heading G2H In a process for electro-phoretic migration of an imaging material in a layer 38 of suspension medium between two surfaces, one of which is of photo-conductive material 50, uniform migration of the material to one of the surfaces is effected in a uniform unidirectional electric field and preferably during uniform exposure of the photoconductive layer, Fig. 1b (not shown) whereafter imagewise migration of the material from the surface is effected in a second uniform electric field which is alternating or of opposite direction during imagewise exposure of the photo-conductive layer. The fields may be produced using at least one plate or roller electrode or corona discharge device. A mixture of two optically different imaging materials either of opposite polarity or of the same polarity and different electro-phoretic mobility may be employed. The medium may be of a contrasting colour or contain a layer which is porous to the imaging material and is of contrasting colour. It may be permanently liquid or may set on cooling (in a temporary display device) or may be thermosetting (to provide a permanent image). In a display device, one or both of the opposite surfaces may be transparent and visible, ultraviolet, infrared, X-ray or y-ray radiation may be employed.
