Abstract

1299833 Laying fabrics CUTTERS MACHINE CO Inc 16 July 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 33412/71 Heading D1S A catcher mechanism for a fabric laying machine comprises a catcher bar 35 which is movable vertically between a lower position and an upper position and swingable upwardly from the upper position to a locking position. As shown, the catcher mechanism comprises spaced-apart plates 11, 12. The plate 12 has a plate (17), Fig. 3 (not shown), hinged thereto and held upon the top of a cutting table (15) by a C-clamp (19). A plate 20, Fig. 5, is hinged to the plate 11 and carries an alignment plate 22 provided with a groove 25 adapted to fit over a rail 26 fixed to the table 15 and on which rail 26 run grooved wheels on. one side of a fabric laying carriage 30. The bar 35 depends from a support bar 36 fixed at its ends to members 37, 38 connected to a tubular support 39 the extremities of which carry rollers 40 adapted to travel in slots 41, 43 in the plates 11, 12. The upper guideways 42 of these slots are formed at their forward extremities with locking recesses 43. Bars 49, 50 carry pins 47, 48 which move in slots 45, 46 in the members 37, 38 and are journalled by pins 51 in the plates 11, 12. A tubular support 52 maintains the spacing of the bars 49, 50. Link bars 55, 56 are journalled to the support 39 and by pins 57 to the bars 49, 50. In operation, as the carriage 30 approaches the catcher mechanism, bars 60 on the carriage engage rollers 61 mounted on the outer surfaces of the members 37, 38. The bar 35 is elevated vertically until the rollers 40 arrive at the top of the guideways 41, the height of which is designed to be equal to or exceed the depth of the stack of fabric layers on the table 15. Continued lifting of the bar 35 causes the bar 35 and members 37, 38 to swing upwardly about the rollers 40. Simultaneously, the bars 55, 56 cause the rollers 40 to travel along the guideways 42 until they drop into the recesses 43 to lock the bar 35 and the members 37, 38 in an elevated position so that the fabric layers may be freely cut on the table 15, Fig. 4 (not shown). After cutting, the bar 35 is lifted slightly, or the rear ends of the members 37, 38 are forced rearwardly, to raise the rollers 40 from the recesses 43 and the bar 35 is returned to its original position.
