1299830 Stretchers G E STEELMAN 29 June 1971 [2 July 1970] 30346/71 Heading A5X A stretcher has a substantially rectangular frame comprising first and second pairs of parallel supporting members, a rectangular flexible sheet member 14, Fig. 1, wound into a roll 47, the sheet member having opposite ends, one of the ends being operatively attached to one of the supporting members of the first pair, an unrolling mechanism engaging the sheet member at 46, Fig. 3, said mechanism being movable to draw the sheet member toward the other supporting member of said first pair, whereby the sheet member is stretched across the space defined by the frame. The frame 12 is adjustable in width and comprises two generally U-shaped frame sections 16 and 18, the limbs of section 18 being telescopically received within the limbs of section 16 and being held in place by pins 31 received in registering openings in the sections. An elongated draw bar 41 extends approximately parallel to the frame member 24 and is provided with a plurality of bearing rollers 46, Fig. 3. The sheet member 14 passes around the rollers 46 and is unrolled from the roll 47 as the draw bar 41 is drawn along the length of the frame 12 by cables 50 and 52 secured to a shaft 54. Rotation of the shaft 54 is achieved by means of gears 60, 62 and a crank handle 64. Hook members 34. and (76), Fig. 4 (not shown), are provided for engagement in grommets (36) and (78, respectively, on the longitudinal sides of the sheet member 14. The hook members (76) are. provided on straps 74 which are secured to a shaft (66) mounted for rotation within the frame member 20. Rotation of the shaft 66 by means of gears and a crank handle 72 tensions the sheet member laterally. Retaining straps 82, 84, 86 and 88 are provided on the device for securing the patient thereon.
