Abstract
1299766 Electric couplings H NAGANO 18 Sept 1970 [24 Sept 1969] 44692/70 Heading H2E An electrical connector, Fig. 5 comprises an insulating housing having a bottom wall 2 and integrally formed clamps 13, 14 located in a hollow in the housing. The clamps 13, 14 clamp spring means comprising two half retaining springs 5L, 5R and two half clamping springs 6L, 6R. A conductor is passed through an aperture in one side of the housing and laid on a conductive plate 3 on the bottom wall and one cam 7R of a pair of cams is rotated to urge one half of the spring means against the conductor. A second conductor is passed through an aperture in the opposite side of the housing the second cam 7L is rotated to urge the other half of the spring means against this conductor, the conductors being interconnected via the plate 3. The retaining springs 5L, 5R may be joined to form one retaining spring, as may be the clamping springs 6L, 6R. The connector may alternatively have only one cam end and one half retaining and clamping springs the opposite end of the plate 3 being extended as a terminal to which conductors may be soldered or wire-wrapped. A plurality of these connectors may be joined together and they may all be connected to earth by a plug having a plurality of pin contacts to fit in the connectors, all the contacts being connected to a common conductor connected to earth. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 13, the spring means comprises two retaining springs 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, one clamping spring 6 and two reinforcing springs 15, 15<SP>1</SP>. In the bottom wall 2 of the housing a recess 16 is formed and this is bridged by a plate spring 19 which supports a stem 21 which passes through a hole 20 in the conductive plate 3 and carries an auxiliary conducting plate 22 which abuts the clamping spring 6. When a conductor is inserted through one of the apertures 11, 12 and the corresponding cam 7R, 7L is rotated, the spring means forces the auxiliary plate 22 down so that the inserted conductor is clamped between the plates 3, 22, the projection 23 on the housing allowing the two halves of the spring means to operate independently. A plurality of these connectors may be joined together, and the cams each may be formed with a hole in its end for the insertion of the end of a screwdriver to act as a lever. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,214,401.
