Abstract
1299176 Dynamo-electric machines RANSOME SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd and SEVCON ENG Ltd 12 Jan 1970 [10 Jan 1969] 1730/69 Heading H2A A driving arrangement for a battery-propelled vehicle comprises a field-controlled D.C. motor 25 and an A.C. induction motor 31 located in a common housing 1 with their rotors 23, 33 mounted on a common shaft 17, the housing being divided by a non-magnetic separator 21 which provides flux insulation for the two machines. The A.C. motor when connected to an external source of power via a centrifugal switch 37 drives the D.C. motor as a generator for charging the battery. Secured to one end of shaft 17 is a fan 43 which draws cooling air through the machines and through a controller 45 for the motor 25, the air entering the housing and controller through apertures 39, 41, 49. Drive is transmitted from the other end of shaft 17 through a reduction gear 55 and a preferably electromagnetic clutch 57.
