Abstract

The differential coupling is for a motor unit having one electrical and one thermal motor. Coupling from the thermal motor is via a centrifugal mechanism which takes up the second, electrical, motor drive if the thermal motor is running, the second motor being freed and allowed to transmit its torque if the first stops. The combined drive is intended to increase the overall vehicle efficiency allowing battery charging, combined traction effort and braking according to vehicle loading. The starter and dynamo of the thermal motor are replaced by the electrics motor-dynamo. The thermal motor is coupled in by a double pinion at half speed, engaging with the motor flywheel and with the drive wheel of the conventional drive shaft. The flywheel and drive are coupled by an electromagnet to provide direct engagement of both motors.
