1298900 Belt buckles RFD-GQ Ltd 6 Oct 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 49020/70 Heading E2A A buckle for a seat belt or safety harness comprises a frame 11, an operating lever 13, a catch plate 12, and a lug 14 which can be held in the frame by the catch plate. The latter is pivoted to the frame, and biassed by leaf springs 28, 29 towards the fastening position, and the lever is pivoted to the catch plate but is not otherwise connected to the frame. As shown, the catch plate has pivots 32, 33 in apertures in the side plates of the frame and arms 35, 36 formed with pivots 37, 38 which ride in slots 31 in the lever; a catch 34 engages in an aperture 41 in the lug 14 when the latter is inserted between a bar 25 and the base 15 of the frame. The lever is provided with cams 44, which, when the lever is raised to release the lug 14, roll on a roller 21 so that the pivots 37, 38 ride in the slots 31 to rotate the catch plate about the pivots 32, 33 and to allow the catch 34 to release the lug. Thrust on the catch plate is transmitted to the bar 25 and the catch plate is prevented from being raised too far by a portion 47 of a stop plate 24; the latter has faces 48 engageable by notches of the lever.
