Abstract

1298678 Mouldable polyimines from dialdehydes and diamines BBA GROUP Ltd 19 Oct 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 53393/69 Heading C3R A mouldable aromatic polyimine is obtained by reaction of an aromatic dialdehyde with an aromatic diamine in a molar ratio of 1 : 0À5-0À9 in an inert organic solvent. In Examples, polyimines are prepared in methanol from the pairs terephthalaldehyde/m-phenylene diamine, isophthalaldehyde/p-phenylene diamine, and isophthalaldehyde/m-phenylene diamine. The intermediate low molecular weight polyimine obtained is mixed with asbestos and moulded and cured by heat, or mixed with FeCl 3 , AlCl 3 or BF 3 as a "Lewis acid" curing catalyst and cured by heat.
