Abstract

1298373 Treating rubber surfaces SEMPEKIT AG 3 Aug 1970 [4 Aug 1969] 37357/70 Headings C3E and C3P A rubber article is treated, prior to vulcanization, by applying to the surface of the article a powdered parting agent, or mixture of such agents, either as such or in suspension in a volatile organic liquid, said agent or mixture of agents having a specific surface area of at least 200 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. measured by the B.E.T. method. Suitable agents include high activity silicic acid and carbon blacks. In examples, (1) active carbon is dusted on to crude rubber articles before they are vulcanized in a press mould; (2) a high-activity black is suspended in a benzine solution containing SBR, gas black, mineral oil, antioxidant, an anti-ozone agent (isopropylcyclohexyl - p - phenylenediamine) and vulcanizing agents, the resulting suspension being sprayed on to articles before vulcanization in moulds and (3) active carbon is suspended in a solution as in (2), in which the SBR is a block copolymer, the solution then being applied to rubber foil by roller and the foils used in tyre manufacture.
