Abstract
1297729 Stabilized optical systems FRANCE ARMED FORCES, MINISTER OF 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 21753/71 Heading G2J A sighting device for use in, e.g. a helicopter, has a mirror 2 that is stabilized in azimuth and elevation by a gyro which also stabilizes a prism 4 about the axis XX to prevent tilting of the image. The mirror 2 views through windows 8 in caps 3, 5, the cap 5 being resiliently mounted in the helicopter and the image is reflected from the mirror 2 through a Galilean telescope 6, the prism 4 and astronomical telescope 7 that may pivot about the axis XX. The observer may be replaced by a television or film camera and, if a television camera is used, the prism 4 could be replaced by electronic means for effectively rotating the scanning axis of the camera in dependance upon rotation of the azimuth of the gyro.
