Abstract
1412733 Optical systems REDIFON Ltd 25 Aug 1972 [7 Sept 1971 13 Jan 1972 18 Aug 1972] 41648/71 1638/72 and 38571/72 Heading G2J An optical arrangement for compensating for the tilt in an object surface 12 or for producing a tilt in an in-focus image surface, e.g. in flight simulating apparatus, comprises two optical systems 11, 13, the first 11 adapted to form an image 14 of the object surface 12, and the second 13 adapted to receive radiation from 14 and form an image 15, one or both of the image surfaces 14, 15 being tilted with respect to the optical axis of the system 11, 13 producing it. A device 10 is provided for deflecting radiation with respect to one or both axes so that the surfaces 14, 15 have different angles of tilt, this angle being adjustable by movement of the device 10, or of one or more elements of the device 10, relative to one or both systems 11, 13. The axes may be coaxial or mutually inclined, and the device 10 may be a lens, as shown, or a plane mirror, a lens-mirror combination or a prism or a lens-prism combination and movement of the device or element may be in its own plane, i.e. normal to the plane of the paper in Fig.2, or about an axis normal to the paper, e.g. the axis (24) of the plane mirror (20) in Fig.3 (not shown), or in its own plane about an axis in the plane of the paper, e.g. where the device is a prism. Such systems permit image tilting to be achieved without substantially deflecting the light beam, see e.g. Figs.8 and 9 (not shown). The relative motion of the device 90, Fig.10, with respect to the systems 91, 94 may be achieved by movement of elements, e.g. plane mirrors 92, 93, forming part of the systems. The mirrors are tilted in opposite directions at the same speed so that the optical axes 95, 96 appear to rotate about points 97, 98, the lens 90 acting as a field lens and focusing 97 on 98.
