Abstract

1281773 Optical deflections apparatus INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 12 Aug 1970 [2 Sept 1969] 38803/70 Heading G2J A laser beam initially incident on a mirror M1 is reflected through a lens N1, at the focal point of which the mirror is positioned, and returned by a system comprising a lens L2 and mirror M2 (which may be substituted by a total internal reflecting prism) to the same point on the mirror M1 but at a different angle of incidence. In this way by repeated reflection the finally imergent ray is deflected through an angle greater than would be achieved by the normal displacement of the scanning mirror (which may be either or both of mirrors M1, M2). When using two mirrors they may be scanned at right angles to each other to generate a raster.
