Abstract
1297514 Measuring heat flux electrically NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 23 Dec 1969 [3 Jan 1969] 440/69 Heading G1N [Also in Division G4] A heat flux meter comprises two thermocouples T 1 , T 2 , connected to a resistance-capacity network having electrical characteristics analogous to the heat flow characteristics of a body between first and second regions spaced apart in the direction of heat flow resulting from the application of heat to a face of a mould wall W 1 to which the heat flux is to be measured, and a differential amplifier A3 connected across the input resistance V 1 and supplying an indication of current therein to an U.V. recorder R. The wall W 1 is of "finite" thickness, that is the temperature at the cold face is dependent on the temperature at the hot face and the thermocouples are connected to the opposed ends of the network. The thermocouples may be replaced by thermistors. If the heat flux is required at a part of the wall other than at the heated face, the current through the resistor disposed at the corresponding point in the network is measured.
