1311405 Measuring temperature electrically SIEMENS A G 18 Aug 1971 [25 Aug 1970] 38846/71 Heading G1N [Also in Division H1] Temperature measuring apparatus comprises a resistance thermometer 2 of which the resistor 2<SP>1</SP> is disposed with thermocouple junctions 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> in a probe unit 1 for immersion in the medium of which the temperature is required, thermocouple 3 being relatively slow-acting compared with thermocouple 4 which is relatively quick-acting compared with the resistance thermometer, the thermocouples being connected in series - opposition to produce at circuit 5 an output signal corresponding to the difference # TE of the indications from the two thermocouples, which signal is combined at 7 with that from the resistance thermometer and the resultant is indicated at 8. Thus the difference # TE goes to zero as the output from the slow-acting thermocouple rises, while the resistance thermometer assumes the temperature of the medium, sothat in the steady state the error in the resultant signal is due only to the resistance thermometer and is small whilst in the transient state the high speed of response of the thermocouple 4 determines the resultant. The probe has a tube 11 filled with an electrically insulating mass of high thermal conductivity and tapered to end 13 inside which the junction 4<SP>1</SP> is disposed. Disposed above the end and adjacent each other in the tube are the resistor 2<SP>1</SP> and junction 3<SP>1</SP>.
