Abstract
1297205 Granules derived from Thomas meal C M VANGINNEKEN 3 Dec 1970 [3 Dec 1969] 57584/70 Heading C1B In a method for the preparation of Thomas meal for use as an artificial fertilizer, the Thomas meal is fed in powder form to the top end of a vertical, elongated zone, and water or an aqueous solution or a melt of potassium and/or nitrogen-containing compounds is fed into said zone at the same time and to the same end; high-speed mixing is carried out at the top part of the zone whereby the powder is intermixed with the liquid; and the mixture is caused or allowed to pass through a free space in the zone beneath the high-speed mixing stage in a helical path to agglomerate the individual particles and form a granulated material as said particles roll down along the wall of the zone. If water is present or has been used, the granulated material is then dried. Suitable apparatus for effecting the above method is described and claimed with reference to a Figure wherein there is illustrated receptacle 1, delivery tube 2, driving motor and shaft 3 and 4 for mixing elements 10, feed screw and conveyer 12 and 13, powder hopper 11, feed cap 15, reservoir 17, feed tubes 16 and drier 21 to 26.
