Abstract

1297025 Electrical steel sheet BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP 4 Feb 1970 [13 Feb 1969] 5377/70 Headings C7A and C7D The steel contains not more than 0À03%C, not more than 1%Mn, and 0À5-4À5%Si, the latter being diffused through at least 50% of the sheet thickness. In the as-diffused state the steel has a grain size of not more than 50 grains/sq. in. when viewed at a magnification of Î100. The steel may be produced by coating a sheet containing not more than 0À1%C, not more than 1%Mn and not more than 2%Si, balance Fe, with a powder containing not less than 15% silicon and not more than 0À4%C, and heating to diffuse the Si. The powder may be pure silicon, a siliconiron mixture, or ferrasilicon, and is preferably compacted on to the sheet by rolling. Diffusion may be effected with the sheet in flat or coil form, in dry hydrogen or nitrogen-hydrogen mixture, at 1700-1900‹F.
