Abstract

1296808 Charging gas containers LIF-O-GEN Inc 8 July 1971 [9 July 1970] 32078/71 Heading F4P A method of sterilizing gas containers 10 and then filling them with a sterilized gas, comprises the steps of evacuating the containers 10 and conduit system 16, 30, 54 by means of a vacuum pump 66 when valves 32, 53, 44 and 62 are closed, thus removing air-born contaminants, and then introducing a sterilizing agent such as ethylene oxide from containers 58, valves 62 being open and valve 72 in conduit 30 closed. The agent is held within the containers 10 for a predetermined period, the containers thus being sterilized. If a flammable gas is used as the sterilizing agent, a valve 52 is opened to deliver diluent inert gas from container 46 to the agent before opening valve 72 to evacuate the combined sterilizing agent and diluent gas to atmosphere. The final step comprises shutting valves 52, 62, 72 and opening valve 32 to discharge the feed gas from container 12 to containers 10, the gas passing through a sub-micron filter media type sterilizer 42.
