1296768 Acoustic signalling FRIED KRUPP GmbH 13 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 54186/70 Heading G4F [Also in Division H4] A submersible device 8 for relaying measurement data (e.g. echo-sounding, trawl net disposition or net fullness data) from submerged probes 4 (e.g. on a trawl net) to a water craft 6 comprises transducers and a streamlined sinker, the device being suspended from the craft by a rope 9. The device hangs almost vertically below the craft at a depth such that the transmission of the data by means of modulated sound waves between probes 4 and device 8 is unaffected by craft noises and thermal stratification of the water. Data is transmitted from device 8 to craft 6 by cable or by an acoustic link. Device 8 may be torpedo-shaped, or spherical with one or more fins for stabilizing its orientation. The transducers may be enclosed by the sinker or by a separate housing. A vertical shaft in the crafts hull, or a jib, is provided to aid winching the device up or down. Device 8 may include echosounding gear for determining the range and/or direction of net 1 and fish 3.
