Abstract

1296502 Cathode-ray tubes NORTHROP CORP 30 April 1971 [1 May 1970] 12566/71 Heading H1D A cathode-ray tube wherein electrons passing from an extended area cathode 16 to a target 11 are controlled by a plurality of flat control plates 22-25 defining channels and each provided with a pair of electrodes biased by an associated flip-flop (50-53), is characterized in that the control plates actuate simultaneously a plurality of channels in different areas each controlled by an associated modulator. In the drawing a corresponding channel such as 60a- 60d in each of four quadrants is activated, according to the condition of the flip-flops, and a modulator plate 26 is provided with separate modulator electrodes 36a-36d in each quadrant. The electrodes 22-26 may be dynodes and the tube may be of the display, image scanner, or memory type.
