Abstract
1296466 Straightening; tensioning N H POLAKOWSKI 22 Jan 1970 [27 Jan 1969] 3200/70 Heading B3E A pressure assisted tension roller leveller permits transverse flexibility in at least one roll so as to conform with transverse variations of the strip being levelled. As shown in Fig. 1 a work roll 1 co-operates with hollow flexible deflector rolls 5 at a first stage, and work roll 11 co-operates with a hollow flexible back-up roll 12 at a second stage. Flexibility may be introduced in the mounting beams 9, 17, which may be supported by hydraulic jacks at a number of equidistant points across the width of the leveller. Mechanical jacks can be used in place of the hydraulic jacks when hollow low rigidity rolls are employed and the beams 9, 17 are rigid. Flexibility of a back-up roll can be achieved by the arrangement of Fig. 3 where pillars 29 on a flexible beam 28 mount the roll 31 at reduced portions 30. A final levelling stage may be employed without pressure assistance.
