Abstract
1296235 Rail vehicle combined buff and draw gear RHEINSTAHL AG 25 Nov 1969 [27 Nov 1968] 57646/69 Addition to 1203606 Heading B7T A rail vehicle shock absorber arrangement comprises a beam 2 longitudinally displaceable with respect to the load carrying portion 1 of the vehicle, there being connected between said beam 2 and portion 1 a shock absorber consisting of a piston tube 39 coupled by pin 40 to the beam 2 and a cylinder 41 coupled by pin 42 to the portion 1, the inner end of tube 39 having connected therewith two triangular section wedge elements 45 having outer faces which bear against co-operating elements 47 such that on beam 2 receiving a shock, tube 39 will move relative to cylinder 41 causing a wedge action between elements 45 and 47 to partly absorb the shock, the remainder of the shock being absorbed by brake linings 49 in the outer faces of elements 47 moving over the inner surface of cylinder 41. A metal rubber spring 46 is retained between the elements 45, and lining elements 48 are provided in the contact faces of elements 45 which are of softer material than the contact faces of elements 47. After a shock spring 53 returns the beam 2 to its original middle position. Springs 52 prevent excessively strong wedging of the elements 47 on elements 45 and as the beam returns to its middle position prevent wedging of elements 47 which might inhibit the return travel. In modifications, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), a piston tube 39 is associated with each end of the cylinder tube 41. Each tube 39 carries two wedge elements 45 each with only one wedge surface which co-act with an element 47 also with one wedge surface.
