1295706 Coating apparatus J M REICH 6 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 37976/70 Heading B2L An adhesive applicator comprises a chamber 5 for adhesive, a supply bore 24 for delivering adhesive to application notches 25 and return bores 26, 27 which are connected to the supply bore 24 to allow return of the adhesive to the tank. Adhesive is fed to the supply bore 24 by a rotating screw conveyor located in a bore 10 below the bottom of the tank and fed with adhesive through a hole in the bottom of the tank. A rotatable and longitudinally movable slide valve 29 is provided and has an axial groove which controls the flow of adhesive to either the outlets or return bores by rotation or controls the number of outlets fed by longitudinal movement. A second storage chamber 6 is provided and separated from the chamber 5 by a hinged flap 4 which allows either chamber to feed the screw conveyor and is also provided with a notch 14 to allow overflow of adhesive without spillage outside the tanks. The tanks are removably mounted on a heater plate 18. A motor 21 drives the feed screw and also, by means of a pulley, a strirring rod mounted in tank 6. In a modification the equivalent of tank 6 may be mounted above the main tank and in a further modification the tanks may be mounted side by side with the feed conveyor common to both. In both modifications the main supply tanks have close fitting lids to allow for pressurization of the medium.
