Abstract

1295297 Link mats THOMAS WHITTLE & SONS Ltd 6 Oct 1970 [25 Nov 1969] 57489/69 Heading A4S In a link mat offset rows 10, 11, 12 of spaced links 13 are connected together by flexible plastics-coated wire ropes 20, 21, 22 which pass through apertures 16, 17 in the links and are secured in aligned apertures 31 to 36 in end bars 29, 30 by being soldered to nipples 37 to 42 which have heads 43 engaging the outer surfaces of the bars. Each rope consists of four, twisted together, strands 23 to 26 of twisted together metal filaments 27 in a polypropylene coating 28, the coating being stripped from an end of a wire before insertion thereof in a nipple and application of solder 45. Intermediate nipples 46, 47 are crimped or otherwise secured to the ropes to locate the links when the mat is rolled. The links and end bars are preferably of plastics material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, and links of different colours may be arranged in a pattern. In a modification the wire rope has no plastics coating.
