Abstract
1295078 Knitting BENTLEY ENG CO Ltd 13 April 1970 [12 April 1969] 18846/69 Headings D1C and D1K Openwork in, e.g. stockings, is knitted on a multified superposed cylinder machine by selecting needles to knit either one or both of two yarns fed at a first feed, and then selecting these needles to miss or knit the yarn feed at the next feed. In the particular embodiment shown certain needles in the lower cylinder are selected to take the lighter A of two yarns fed at the first feed. The needles are reselected to miss yarn N at the next feed, so forming an elongated loop Al. A double loop of yarns Al and B is knitted at that wale in the next course. The rib wales R comprise alternate double loops of yarns Al and B, and loops of yarn N. In a modification double yarn loops are elongated if their needles miss at the second feed. The openwork may be knitted on long-butt instep needles only. Selector jacks 4 of the lower cylinder are selectively raised prior to the first feed Y so that upper butts of pivoted intermediate jacks 3 project into the cam cylinder. When all the needles have been lowered to an intermediate level by cam 9 to take the first yarn the selected jacks only are raised by 18b so that the associated needles take the second yarn. The needles knit by engaging cams 11 or 15 respectively, and 12. A reselection is made at 19 prior to the next feed.
